How to pin on a
boutonniere or corsage

There are several methods of pinning on a boutonniere I’m going to share with you. The method used will depend on the material its being pinned to.

suit or tux

Step 1: Place the boutonniere in the middle of the person’s left side lapel.
Step 2: While holding the boutonniere in place, turn the lapel over to expose the underside.
Step 3: Take your pin and insert it into the top part of the lapel fabric then through the stem of the boutonniere. Push it back through to have the tip of the pin on the underside of the lapel.
Step 4: Flip the lapel back over and make sure the boutonniere is secure.
Step 5 (optional): If the boutonniere needs more stability, place another pin through the lapel and jacket at a horizontal angle at the top of the stem.

Dress shirt or dress

Step 1: Pinch the shirt fabric of the person’s left side within your fingers.
Step 2: Take your pin and insert it between both pieces of fabric.
Step 3: Push the pin through the boutonniere/corsage stem as close to the front of the boutonniere as possible to provide stability.
Step 4: Insert the pin back through the shirt then out the other side.
Step 5: Stretch the shirt to allow the pinched areas to lay flat against the chest.
Step 6 (optional): If the boutonniere/corsage needs more stability, place another pin in same fashion through the top of the stem as close to the flowers as possible.
